The FABulous Final Workshop

On Wednesday 28th of October  FABulous, in collaboration with the OPeraTIC and METAMORPHA projects, will host it’s final workshop during AIMEN International Laser Week 2026. The workshop will highlight advances in laser-based precision and micro-manufacturing for functional surfaces, demonstrating the projects’ technological capabilities and application potential. It will also be a forum to discuss technical challenges, industrial relevance, and future adoption of the approaches and technologies developed within each project.

The event will introduce the projects, their core innovation goals, results, and relevance to future advanced laser-based precision and micro-manufacturing, with emphasis on technical progress, application potential, and routes to industrial adoption. There will also be a dedicated session on key technical results achieved in adaptive beam shaping and flexible multibeam methods for functional metasurface fabrication and laser-based microprocessing more broadly. A roundtable discussion will follow, focusing on how the projects have supported the design and manufacture of demonstration cases, including compact and efficient optical products and aeronautic fuselage components. Participants will showcase progress in high-precision laser-based manufacturing, large-component surface engineering, and combined high-throughput, ultra-high-resolution 3D printing.

In addition the workshop will explore the industrial potential of laser technology, its alignment with manufacturing needs, and the requirements, barriers, and pathways for wider adoption. A further session on sustainability, human factors, and uptake will address issues beyond laser physics and hardware that are critical to the technology’s impact and adoption, including its wider societal, environmental, and socioeconomic implications.

Finally, a series of practical demonstrations will showcase the new capabilities in laser-based precision micro-manufacturing achieved by each project, giving attendees a clearer understanding of the technology’s performance and relevance for future industrial applications.
